Karl Marx was born in Trier, Germany, on 5 May 1818.
On his 200th birthday a statue was unveiled.
From May to October exhibitions and lectures were held about his life and work.
A statue by the artist Wu Weishan, donated to the town by the Chinese government,
was unveiled on 5 May 2018.

When Marx was editor of Rheinische Zeitung he reported
on the problems of the wine growers in the Moselle valley.
