“Early British Trackways, Moats, Mounds, Camps, and Sites.” Such is the full title of a wonder book just published at 4s 6d net by the Watkins’ Meter Company, Hereford (London agents, Messrs. Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Co.). Based on a lecture given at Hereford, last year, by Mr. Alfred Watkins, fellow and progress medalist of the Royal Photographic Society, it is a publication we recommend to scoutmasters, naturalists, ramblers, cyclists, motorists, and photographers. On one side the book represents a discovery of wide scope, for it not only represents a systematic planning of pre-historic trackways, but throws a flood of light on the evolution of defensive camps, on the sites of castles and churches, and on the meaning of place names. As regards its illustrations—there are over forty photographs and several maps—the book is a triumph.
