The Knobley ley is described in The Old Straight Track, page 19, with a photo of the stone in Fig. 24. Castle Green is not in the index to The Old Straight Track.

BRITISH TRACKWAYS.

Photo of Alfred Watkins Mr. Alfred Watkins, our enthusiastic antiquarian, is actively pursuing his investigations into the British Trackway system, and has recently taken some fine photographs in illustration of the strong case he has made out. One photograph shows a mossgrown pillar of stone in a field standing by itself with a striking mountain peak in the distance, the ley, shown in another photograph, being continued to a peak in the reverse direction. Curiously enough, and as remarkable evidence of Mr. Watkins’ contention, a cottage lies directly in the ley from the stone to the mountain peak, and that cottage even today is called Knobley, the ley to the knob of the peak of the hill. Mr. Watkins’ discovery of the ancient trackway leading from the old ford below the Castle Green—in exactly the position in which he expected to find it—was a notable achievement, and will arouse additional interest in the subject.
