Dear Mother,
Sixes and sevens! Nurse’s mother very ill : Nurse is to go down and nurse her. Lucy is tearing round trying to find a temporary : school work at its heaviest : two people coming for inspection tomorrow.
One of our department asked me today whether letter in Sunday Times was from Father. I didnt see the letter, but as it was on “beacons” there is not much doubt. Tell Father that a friend of mine, Lambert, was walking in Sussex last week. A little while ago I was telling him about leys. He now tells me that wishing to get to Chichester he asked the way, and was told by a countryman “Well it is some way round by road: but if you go to the top of that hill, you will see Chichester Cathedral and a path leading to it in a dead straight line.”
Love from
Allen
Many thanks for letter.
