THIS IS NOT a very good photograph for it fails to give full effect of this chicko’s Cheerful Grin. We often used his shikara from road to houseboat because of his very happy disposition. He spoke a smattering of English with a slight impediment and was always after buying our watches for the price of a few annas. I gave him a copy of this picture (as he called it) and although he was very pleased with it could not produce it next day. If we were without change he was always willing to accept payment in cigarettes (which was bad luck for John).
