In about 80 recently-edited pages on this website, HTML numeric entities € to Ÿ were used to obtain certain special characters: for example Œ for Œ and – for en-dash (–).
Numeric entities in this range were assigned by Microsoft and work under Windows, but they don’t necessarily work under other operating systems. The International Standards Organization defines them as control characters, so Microsoft’s usage is non-standard.
The correction is to obtain these special characters with the HTML entities assigned by the ISO: for example Œ for Œ and – for en-dash. These numeric entities work under Windows as well as other operating systems, so there’s no need to use € to Ÿ for special characters. For more information, see for example:
