LEY LINE SEISMIA

Seismia is a magical discipline for charging the body with Earth waves.  In more technical terms, Seismian practices, if successful, may result in a field coupling of Earth & Body waves.  To some extent, of course, this coupling would involve celestial influences.  But no definite propositions can as yet be formulated about the various factors that are brought into play by the ancient techniques, so long ignored, if not despised, by Occidental Humanity. 

Figure A illustrates several elementary principles of Ley line plotting.  Also, the sketch indicates something about the biopsychic activation of these Geocosmic axons and synapses through the agency of human celebration.  The relations and sizes are distorted for the sake of illustration. 

First of all, at the top of the sketch, please note knoll A and peak B.  Then observe the 2 stangs or Geodetic Staves, labeled 1 & 2.  If Stangs 1 & 2 align with each other, AND with topographic positions A and B, THEN THE VIEWER IS ON A STRAIGHT LINE BETWEEN POSITIONS A AND B.  Thus the Dodmen, or priestly surveyors of Hermes in ancient Britain laid out those Old Straight Tracks which Alfred Watkins named LEYS, and which formed Henge and Mound-centered magical networks. 

Devotees of the Great Goddess of Earth and Heaven should begin to experiment with Ley lines surveying and ceremonial usage in their own regions.  U.S. Geological Survey Quadrangles can be obtained from local map stores when more interesting patterns of Leys are desired.  Large circular protractors are carried by art and engineering suppliers. 

Traditionally, the Stang or Thumb-stick is fashioned of Ash Wood. 

Pagans who are so inclined, I strongly urge to take courses in modern surveying, and then get the precision theodolite into the act.  In memory of the great HYPATIA, the more Lady Geomancers the better.  But for beginning projects, the transit is not required.  In fact, for RITUAL verifications of alignment the primordial staves &/or certain exquisitely beautiful methods of classic Egypt, which I will present later, are a sacramental necessity!  However, at all times the greatest accuracy must be painstakingly sought. 

You will want a good field compass, and a magnifying glass for the maps.  Also, I recommend a set of bird watchers binoculars, or a rugged, portable telescope.  Nevertheless, to get started all you need are the staves, with or without Y-crotches on top.  The important thing is to GET STARTED NOW, and to record impressions, thoughts, and inspirations that flow from this Love Play Work.  These notes will be invaluable to the Aquarius–Leo people who follow us.  No practice will afford the celebrant a keener sense of the TOPOCOSM, or LIVING ORGANISM OF EARTH AND SKY! 

The investigations of the German Physicist G.F. Von Pohl indicated that Earth Rays traverse the Earth in narrow ribbons, AND ALWAYS IN A STRAIGHT LINE!  (Earth Rays as Causes of Disease, 1952.) This fact, related to the distribution of subterranean mineral veins, water arteries, fault lines, and other geodetic stresses no doubt reveals one of the principal reasons for graphing the Old Straight Tracks, or LUNG MEI, Dragon Paths, as they were called in antique China by Taoist Geomancers. 

Other reasons are astronomical; the meaningful interrelation of Land-marks and Star-marks.  But the Seismic or Sigmoid curvature of Earth Ray propagation is also of capital importance.  This is especially relevant to the question of Human Body Rays and their Sex Magical {60} Super-imposition with Earth Rays.  Therefore against the lower frame of Figure A, I show a Surveyor-Priestess gazing over a Ley at 90 degrees to the one moving through peaks A and B.  Let us say she is psychically “activating” this Ley.  Or perhaps she is “amplifying” its Geomagnetic potentials.  She imagines a “current” emanating from her own body, chiefly from waist and pelvis, or from the whole hour-glass or torso, waist and hips.  She may be lying on the track or standing on it.  As Castaneda’s Yaqui Mentor, Don Juan, explains in Another Reality, the navel is a particularly voluminous fount of etheric threads.  She, the Magian, imagines waves of erotic energy cascading from her flesh in sync with her breathing, and perhaps.with slight back and forward movements of her pelvis.  Or maybe she directs the emanation by a slow, sinuous ripple up and down the entire length of her body in the manner of Black African trance dancers.  She allows the double sine wave to spread out from either side of the main axis of her body, like rings on the surface of a pond after a frog has jumped in.  These widening arcs, continually swooping in and out from the horizontal seam of the Ley, fill the angles and rondures of the.whole Panorama.  In the mind of Priestess, Priest or celebrant, it becomes impossible to determine whether the body current is actuating the Earth current or the Earth current is stepping up the bio-electric streaming of the body.  The Enchantress has achieved some kind of reciprocal resonance with the Landscape, and now the Landscape is her greater Body.  The level of excitement rises and falls, but the thrilling energy exchange flows on. 

If one Enchantress or Enchanter is standing, another may stretch out on the Ley, back to Earth, arms over head, with heels touching the toes of the upright partner.  The outlines of the supine body are then followed by the Caster, to pattern out the Double Sine Curve along the Ley.  The feminine form is obviously far superior to the male in this capacity, because NEOTENY, or childlike evolution, has shaped her body ever closer to the profile of the double sine curve, which is the archetypal Gestalt of energy fusions between Cosmos and Organism. 

In the drawing, this second power line streaks off towards a Crescent Moon in the West.  Here Artemis is “on Ley” over a net of Landforms very important for magical sighting.  They consist of rounded hill in the foreground; low, wing-like ridges flairing to left and right; horn-cleft peak surmounting all in the background.  This exemplary complex of Landforms is discussed by Vincent Scully in his epoch-making book The Earth, The Temple, and the Gods. Greek Sacred Architecture (Praegar/1969, paperback).  Upon this complex of Landforms, almost all Minoan Palaces, and a great many Greek Temples, were aligned, usually due North or South.  Dr. Scully characterizes the rounded hill as a manifestation of the gentle solicitude of The Great Goddess.  The flanking ridge-lines, if present, recall the winged arms of Artemis depicted in many sculptures, as Lady Protectoress of Wild Things.  And the Horn-cleft peak is where dwells the celestial majesty of The Goddess.  Taken all together, these Geomorphs constitute an EPIPHANY of The Goddess in terms of Landscape.  They ARE DEMETER or GAIA as Land Sky Love Body!  Other Landform combinations present the environmental embodiment of different Deities. 

To bless and charge a region, Magical Lovers may stand facing each other, even from quite distant positions, and pulse the current back and forth between them.  Then, after approaching one another while increasing the polar exchange thru the dialectic of Land, they raise the current into the resounding throb of Love’s Great Rite, {61}

In the foreground of the drawing is a notched stone employed as a foresight of the horned cleft.  The mark-stone has been chiseled with a simple glyphic petroglyph of Boundary Cone mountain, executed by some ancient American Indian Geomancer in the Colorado River Valley, off Interstate 40 between Needles, California and Kingman, Nevada. 

Somewhere between the two faraway peaks that seem to form lunar horns when viewed from the carefully located spot of our Priestess, celebrants have ignited a beacon fire.  Into it they cast Moon Sphere incenses.  The Lamp of Lato’s Daughter transits the Geomagnetic vector of the Ley line.  By Seismia the Ley is vibrating with the deep body richess of the Enchantress.  The best magical pronunciation of SEISMIA, with respect to Invocation and Evocation, is SEIZE-MEE-AH. 

Many variations are possible.  Many new territories of rapture in Wildness are opening up!  Explore!  EVOE KORE KAI KOUROS!
