To Lewis Edwards goes the credit of discovering the second zodiac to be revealed in Britain. His Pumpsaint Zodiac (sometimes known as Ffarmers or Pumpsaint/Ffarmers) in Wales was published in little more than note form in the late 1940s. Subsequently, Lewis Edwards wrote a book, illustrated by maps and photographs, which only existed in manuscript form. This book was lost some time after his death, and its whereabouts is unknown, if, indeed, it has not been destroyed.
The ‘zodiac’ illustrated here is the Llansannan Zodiac, which Edwards believed exists in North Wales. The only material on this is a map, which was used by Edwards for illustration at his talks. There is absolutely no published or manuscript material at all about this zodiac, so we have no description of the supposed meaning of the effigies Edwards claims. The area covered by the map is on extremely mountainous terrain and the figures bear no resemblance to ancient art of any period. However unlikely this ‘zodiac’ may be, we present it here in the interests of knowledge – the first time it has ever been published.
